  • No Longer a Jeep Fan - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This purchase was our fourth Jeep. The first three were about perfect, and this Jeep has cured me from ever buying another. The car needed to be painted five times and had to be done by area that failed as opposed to painting the whole car at once. The computers have been unreliable, the radio failed, three of the four window actuators have failed, the condenser and evaporator and vent doors have failed, and it had fuel tank issues. The engine and tranny are good but the rest of the car falls apart around it. Nice comfortable ride but you always know its never for long. Oh, and the car leaks like a sieve when it rains. Im headed out to buy an Acura next. Good Heavens!

  • Had a good one - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We must have been lucky, we had a pretty good experience with our jeep. At 86,000 miles it was smashed by a tree in our driveway. We had only spent money on brakes, tires and a water pump. Otherwise it ran great and filled our needs. Im headed out looking for another one to replace ours. I"ve been looking at reviews and no matter what you own; people have trouble. Just try researching other cars! Its a shame manufacturers wont stand behind their cars when its pretty obvious there are issues with some parts.

  • 2nd Jeep and really happy with it. - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my second Jeep and after reading what some people have had very bad luck with their Jeep I though I woud put mine here. I have had mine since 2002 and have not had any Major issue except the breaks this is a known issue with them, I change the breaks myself and save a ton the other Major issue was changing the coil pack but after 145,000 miles I figured it was due so it did not other me. One issue I had was a transmission sensor that was bad but it died during warrenty period so no harm no foul. I pull a camper with this Jeep and it always is there when I need the power. If you do the maintenance on it for the most part it should treat you fine.

Strong SUV, feel very secure and very reliable. Negative: No futuriste gadget (GPS), no lock on gaz system, expensive to maintain in good codition

  • 2002 JGC - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My 2002 Grand Cherokee was a great buy. Ive only had a handful of minor issues with it...nothing that one wouldnt expect from driving 25-40 miles per day in city traffic. But with an average of 18-23mpg or so, its not unreasonable at all. Its a bit squirrelly on the freeway, but it has amazing control in town. Driving in Houston, Austin and Dallas has been a breeze, even when hauling 5 folks or a full load of "stuff". Ill be drivin the wheels off mine. Unless of course I get a newer one. (ThatÂ’s why Im back to Edmunds). Someone looking for a fair sized SUV with good city driving characteristics wont be disappointed.

  • Love my Jeep! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I would love to buy a new Jeep if only they would start offering the manual transmission again. Mine is a 94, the last year they offered the standard. It now has 103,000 miles on it, still has the original clutch, and runs great...it is a real workhorse. I still love it so much I wont give it up. Now that its getting older it does cost a lot to maintain, but it has been very reliable all these years. Only once did I get stranded...when the water pump went. If Jeep ever starts offering the JGC with standard trans again I will definitely buy one!

  • Caution - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

First, there is a recall on the heated seats so call Chrysler if you have questions. I replaced mine twice before getting my recall just this month (June 2010)- $600 each seat. Brakes have been replaced twice - rotors bad. Transmission went out ($3k). Passenger window broke ($400). Power steering problems, replaced blendor on heater ($2k) in 2006; air- conditioning broke now must replace compressor, valve and blendors again ($2k+); CD player broke; gas cap broke; I maintain this vehicle well but it keeps having problems. This is the 5th Jeep I have had and never had any of these problems before this one.

  • The 02 sure is better than the 99 - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

It looks like Jeep did something right compared to the junk 1999 I had, I couldnt pass up the 02 JGC SE because of the price, Listed for over 32k and paid 25k. So far I have no complaints like I did on the 99. One thing that stayed the same is the HORRIBLE GAS MILAGE. I average 13MPG, but what can you expect from a 4000lb vehicle with QuadraTracII

  • 5th Grand Cherokee Still Needs Improved - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive had 5 from 94 up and theyre getting better but once again, with 60,000 miles I am suspicious of future repair costs after the lease is up, so will trade it in. I absolutely LOVE this car but reliability is mediocre and 5-star dealer service and Chryslers hotline for warranty issues are disappointments. I weekly tow a trailer and the car does well; this one has the quiet Select-Trac because axle whine from both my last 2 Jeeps with Quadra-Trac eventually was intolerable at 60 mph. But - easy to get stuck on wet grass - no limited slip. Had to replace seat heater, gauge cluster, starter, brakes twice, & all chrome wheels twice - no warr 2nd time!
